The Cocoa-based TeXShop application serves as an excellent TeX previewer and editor on Mac OS X. It provides support for pdftex and pdflatex, which makes PDF output possible in TeX Live. Also, the application comes with numerous templates and macros, which can spare you from a lot of typing. TeXShop is offered under the GPL public license, which means that it is absolutely free.

The application's user interface has a clean and simple design. It consists of a main text editing area and a toolbar, with options for selecting typesets, formats, macros or templates. You can also find options for printing your work and for sending it to someone, as a message or email.

More options can be found on the menu bar. They give you access to a wide range of features, from simple tweaks to advanced settings. A good example is the macro editor. Besides creating macros, you can also customize the macros pane, by adding new menus and sub-menus.

TeXShop incorporates all popular programs used in TeX, including tex, latex, dvips, cyrillic fonts and many others. Obviously, a solid knowledge about TeX or LaTeX is required to use this application. The good news is that you can find various book recommendations on the developer's website. Furthermore, the application comes with rich documentation materials.

Pros

TeXShop provides support for numerous programs used in TeX. The application comes with numerous templates and macros.

Cons

There are no obvious issues to mention. When it comes to working with TeX, your work can be much easier with TeXShop.
